One of the most important definitions of the church is the fellowship of
believers who are called out of this sinful world, equipped, and sent back into
the world with one mission. The mission is to bring humanity back to the world
of the Creator through the work of Christ and the Holy Spirit in this end-time
day.
The potential for conflict within the Jerusalem church has subsided. The Jewish community can accept that the gospel of Jesus Christ is also reserved for the Gentiles (Ephesians 3:18). So then came the centers of Christianity (church) in areas outside Palestine, such as in Phenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch. Indeed, the churches were standing as a limited mission vehicle to the Jews living there. But beginning with Antioch, soon the evangelical movement became more open to the Gentiles (Ephesians 3: 20-21). A number of Greeks became disciples of God. With the blessings of the church in Jerusalem and through Barnabas they sent to Antioch, the church at Antioch was more equipped for the mission. Barnabas recruited Saul, and they both taught the church at Antioch. An interesting note is made of Luke that in Antioch was the first time the church was called Christian (Acts 11:26). Perhaps that is, when the church begins to have a mission, that is where the true Christian character is!
A church whose mission does not mean to shut itself out from other concerns. When social needs arose, such as the famine that hit the main churches of Judea, the church at Antioch responded by gathering aid to alleviate their suffering.
A mission call is the primary call of the church. Mission tasks are only possible for those who have experienced the grace of salvation. The mission task is not exclusive just to win the soul from the bondage of sin, but also to nourish the human life holistically. Is your church a true Christian church? Mission to whom is the focus of his church's ministry? << keiya meyoka >>
